GRAPHIC STORIES

There are many ways to tell our stories. Drawings help us to visualize as well as to focus the reader on certain aspects of our story. Here's a sample of some of the graphic stories that we designed. Most are based on a specific aspect of our lives such as an earliest memory or something that is irreplaceable to us.

Welcome to our community of readers, writers and thinkers. We will meet in this space to gather and share our thoughts.

1. Please begin by introducing yourself to the group, share at least one thing about yourself and tell us the title of a favorite book. Sign with your first name or your initials.

2. Reflect on the poem Super.Hero that we wrote together during the first week of school. What do you think about the poem? What was it like to write and perform a group poem?Post your reflection under the poem. Make sure you sign with your first name or your initials in order to get credit.

SPOKEN WORD/MURAL RESIDENCY

Students in the literacy arts and ELL reading classes worked with two artists during this residency to explore their own universal themes. Spoken word artist IBé collaborated with students to write individual and choral poems. Visual artist sankaradjeki worked with students to design a mural poem using their own words created from colored tape. Working directly with the artists allowed students the opportunity to communicate in new and unique ways.
